Are you planning on getting the wing off? Maybe find a local panel basher who has good form. I think I paid about £300 to have one of my Farina wings repaired, refitted and properly painted (i.e. not by me). Still way cheaper than Ex-Pensive Steel Panels would charge for a replacement though.
A bit of bodgery on a front valance is an acceptable compromise...

In the spirit of things here I am not opposed to driving it around in a bit of Red Lead (sorry oxide ) until things can be improved. Its just I have gone to so much trouble now stripping it back i dont just want to cover it up with that amount of filler again which was ridiculous.half decent used wigs are expensive but still about 2/3rds cheaper than expressed ripp off when the grill goes on some of itll be hidden its mainly the front corner of the bonnet shut that looks wrong without adding filler
the wing has shrunk a little in its historic impact i think and rather than sort it theyve made the nearside front panel fit the bent wing,no doubt if i got another straight wing it wound fit the gap
So either way i think it will have to come off
Once the pics are developed ill post the discrepancy
Meanwhile back in 76............................

If it shrunk that makes it easier to shape it back up, stretched is much harder IMO to lose.

Re: Heatwave 76 behind the scenes ;)
So back in reality here in Dystopian 2022 Huston we have a problem
I knew I had some surface rust under the dash but dont like what I found when I started to investigate it
It appears way back in its past the windscreen rubber had shrunk dried and cracked and let water in which then found its way behind the dash in-between the padded dash top and the metal dash and decided to have some fun I
This kind of fun
The light here you can see is the windscreen above the dash
And these are both ends of the dash the blue you can see is the back of the dash pad
Ive probably secured half a decent scuttle already because I am betting the bottom of the windscreen flange isn't too clever
I will worry about the other side later
But the top of the dash I just cant get one so I guess something will have to be fabricated?
I cant give up on the car because I am too deep in and also I dont want to
My usual welder has sadly closed shop because of this bloody plandemic sent him bust and neither do I weld or have anywhere to do it if I could but I am not giving up on it.
Ive also tracked down a much better passenger side wing but more about that in the other one soon
Jo

Re: Heatwave 76 behind the scenes ;)
Its been a while The Cortina has been made good for the winter and covered up in the new year I plan on getting it running but as these old Fords of this era had no fuses I dont want to take any chances
The car has been converted to Negative Earth but no fuses
I asked for advice on a one model group but of course nobody ever reads your question properly and then commences to answer something you never asked rather than what you did
So can anybody here help?
I am just no good at maths I was hoping those who had added Fuses would say X Amps is heater,Y Amps is Wipers etc etc but they didn't
I am not adding anything other than possibly a period radio, car has wipers, heater, lights etc and was going to do a relay harness near the headlights getting power direct from battery I just want some ideas of what gauge wire for Alternator output (45 amp alt) what main fuse to protect that Alternator circuit and what gauge of main feed to run into the car to fusebox and ignition baring in mind the original main feed through the car was for a dynamo half its output.
Oh year and what fuses to use on high and low beam feeds between the battery direct and relays.
Just cant do the maths it just wont go in the noggin
I can wire it up if I am given the facts painting by numbers

Just copy the fuses out of another car, they'll be close enough. Everything uses the same H4 bulbs after all so they all use the same power.
From memory a 55w light is about 5amp, so add a bit for luck and initial surge and 15amp should cover dipped beam.

One thing to consider is fusing left and right headlights separately so a blown fuse doesn't result in sudden loss of both.
