I have been getting a bit more done to the 'turd today as the ramp is empty until next week. This poxy car does like attention. First up were the transmission cooler lines which were straightforward then I thought I better sort the transmission oil leak. It leaks from the selector shaft which would be simple on most transmissions but Ford bolt the selector levers on from inside the box so the sump had to come off and the valve block. It is pretty easy to do and is all apart I just need to find an o ring for the inner selector shaft as the kit didn't come with one. Unfortunatly it appears the previous owner was correct when he said the transmission had been overhauled as I found a little problem.

Whoever had it apart last got a bit heavy handed fitting the pipes to the bottom of the valve block. I have no idea what to do about this pipe but if anyone knows a good place for Ford mid case transmission parts then let me know.

Is the tube steel? I think I would try filling it with sand and then red heat and a hammer.

It is aluminum so quite fragile. It isn't too bad but one end wasn't pushed in properly so it will probably go again if I am careful unless I can find a replacement.

Can you not use a bit of copper pipe in shitestyle?
Cheltenham radiators did a 3 core re-core on my Saab rad for £125, although it is a small rad compared with that of a T-bird...
Is the rad American made? An awful lot of them are Chinese crap, I've not read good things about them.

There isn't anything good to read about the Chinese.

Well it all went back together and hopefully will be ok. The radiator is a US made one which was a bit dearer but still cheaper than getting a recore by the local radiator place. Radiator reconditioning is a dying art as there isn't really any money in it any more. Most car rads are all plastic now so not easily rebuilt leaving just commercial and agricultural rads that can be rebuilt so the customer base is pretty small making prices go up. Insurance for anything involving heat has gone through the roof as well so I can kind of understand why prices are so high down here. Anyway it seems to be all ok with no leaks on the gearbox just a leak on the bottom hose now fucking thing.

More 'turd trouble. I was planning on taking it to an American car show this weekend in Bridgwater so I took it out to get some more petrol. When I was walking back to it I noticed one of the front wheels was at a bit of an angle so put it on the ramp to have a look. Both inner tie rod joints are now totally worn out in just 30 miles. I suspect they were probably a bit seized before which was why I never noticed any play. The moral of the story is even though it is mot exempt you still need to check these old motors even more reguarly. (It would of passed an mot when I first got it on the road)

The plan has always been to flog it after I had driven it, I get bored easily. Anuway I am spending a couple of days sorting it out this week and got most of the interior back in just good enough to tidy it up. The headlining is a right bitch so isn't glued in. I also stripped the carb yet again and it ran a lot better. If it is dry today I will give it another run once I sort the exhaust blow on the right hand front pipe, hopefully it just needs a bit of sealer and re-seating. I was looking at a Ford Ranchero at the weekend and fancy one of those now !
