I've since tightened the intake and exhaust manifolds; that has also improved idle (who'dathunkit?).
What next? Welding or brakes?

Nah. But I think I shall add crankcase ventilation, the cleaner pan has provision for it. This engine breathes a little heavily to be left open to vent into the engine bay.

I think that would end up dripping everywhere... The Chieftain already does that and has made a real mess of the driveway.

Keep up Benny, it's Positive Crankcase Ventilation. You know, when instead of dumping out crankcase fumes to atmosphere, you shove it back into the engine to choke on its own waste.
