I believe it was the late model Renner Espastic V6 that required engine removal to change one bank of plugs.

Bleeding the CCI oil pump on a 1976 Suzuki AP50 was a cunt of a job. I couldn't even get away with running it on premix as the oil pump fed the journals on the crank.

Freelander clutch without removing the intermediate gearbox as the book says you should. Doable but horrible. Likewise replacing the heater matrix, everything has to come out, seats, the lot.
Vehicle now gone, so never again.
Changing starter on diesel Regata, engine mounts off get it out. Simple job made difficult.

RenaultSport Mégane II 225 (the hot one) workshop manual for replacing the starter.
Now tbf I have read that independent specialists can just about get it out by dropping the subframe and engine a bit and squeezing it out.

Ffs. How do the designers get away with it?
I suppose they're only thinking it has to last the length of the warranty.

Sounds like common transverse 4x4 problems. My friend had similar issues on his MK1 Freelander and also his MK1 2.2 X Trail.cros wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 12:02 pm Freelander clutch without removing the intermediate gearbox as the book says you should. All jobs that you don't want to do are shitty. I reserve most of my bile for those jobs that are made extra super shitty because some tit what calls himself an engineer had a brain haemorrhage one afternoon.
Rover 600 front discs. Let's put the disc behind the hub for no reason whatsoever and to no benefit. What better way to turn a ten minute job into a day long slog. I assume the Honda Accord suffers from this stupidity too.
Transit Mk7 rear discs. See above - if you need to remove the half shafts to change the discs then there is someone, somewhere who needs stringing up with piano wire.
Pretty much anything to do with the front suspension on VAG longitudinal bangers. I loathe Audis but there is nothing like an ancient front end taken off a Passat in 1973 and then constantly fiddled with to make it any good at all to make you wonder whether restarting the war would be a good idea. Let's put a two and a half inch long steel bolt through an aluminium hole. Ten out of ten Fritz. If I am having to hold a front upright in a jig in your radial arm drill to get the bolt out without wrecking the upright on a four year old car FFS then I'm going to view your assertion that you build premium products with more than a little side eye. They put this shit on Bentleys, don't you know.

Re: Shitty, difficult jobs on cars
Back in the 90's we had a Nissan Sunny GTI/R in for a clutch. After spending a day on it and still no sign of the box coming out a phone call was made to Nissan motorsport. These things were developed for rallying and it was a bit of a weapon. The guy told us they do them in 45 mins in a muddy puddle which we didn't quite believe. Then he said that was in the rally cars, the production ones had an extra bolt that meant the transfer box had to come out. Then there was the stupid great metal bracket under the inlet manifold. All things the rally boy's threw away. Once we junked that lot it wasn't such a bad job.
