Well I am back driving at last - got the OK from the consultant yesterday.
During my 6 or so weeks off my mate's been kindly coming over and taking me for a curry and driving us there in the Merc.
Last week he got the Merc version of the 3 amigos - ABS ESP and the other one - and now I can't get the fucker to go.
I know there are some Merc beards on here - I expect I need to get the codes read so am thinking of getting a code reader - any wisdom about the possible cause and what code reader to get?
I must have missed something. Why weren't you able to drive?
I went to my doc because I kept falling asleep - he suspected sleep aponea and told me not to drive. Since then I have been tested, found I did have it and started using a cpap machine to deal with it - but the doc insisted I see a specialist before saying I was OK to drive again. Due to our world class NHS I have paid for all of this as I'd have been waiting months otherwise.
ETA special mention for Work and BUPA - my work provided BUPA has a blanket exclusion for sleep disorders so told me to fuck off when I tried to claim.
Thanks all, I have ordered a genuine brake light switch on the grounds that it's cheaper than a code reader. I think I am going to start a different thread about code readers.
Glad to hear you’re back behind the wheel, I’ve only had 2 weeks off after an op. but still the longest I’ve not driven since I was 17. Anyway have you tried the lock to lock thing ? Google it but I know it switched the ABS/ ESP / BAS lights off on a CLK we had a couple of years ago. Worth a try for no cost.

My old man was diagnosed with that getting on for 30 years ago now, apparently he's the oldest person on the books at the sleep clinic now, he went there every year for observations for years! The new machines are incredible compared to the old, so quiet compared to how they were! His machines have literally been round the world with him, the difference they make to his life is incredible. As a kid I can never remember him seeing the end of a film and his snoring was so bad he's been banned from hotels. It reduces pressure on the heart enormously (lucky as he's had a quadruple heart bypass) and it improved his quality of life massively.
