Nothing in the last 2 years after car prices going mental is worth it sub £1k unless you want to fix it.

Before then you could and it's now sub £2k bracket. However there is plenty of RWD stuff available for that.

I think you can still buy a useful old Lexus for a grand and a half, IS200 or GS300. Unlike VAG rubbish, rusty Mercs and shagged oil pissing BMW’s they were made well enough in the first place.

We can discount anything bought on the beige as a lot of stuff there is sold cheaper because the seller understandably wants to try and avoid the great unwashed.

A good way to get something for cheap is to focus on what didn't sell on ebay or has resurfaced a few days later with the same seller. They're probably pissed off with time wasters and want it gone (or the buyer realised it was fucked and walked away but its a gamble!)
