Stellantis. Is it the 21st century global British Leyland?

Given the amount it needs to invest for its electric future unless there's serious synergies with the 4wd side it's going to need a shedload of money which I doubt could be justified on a standalone basis.
As Maserati seems to be going down the EV route it might make sense for Stellantis to buy it and use common platforms.

Tata just doesn't have the money to save Jaguar. There's lots of bullish talk of a 2025 relaunch as an EV only marque but not one prototype has been spotted.Warren t claim wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 5:22 pmJust Jaguar.LynehamHerc wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 5:20 pmAre you talking about just Jaguar or JLR?Warren t claim wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 4:23 pm Do you think Tata has already tried to offload Jaguar to Stellantis for a nominal fiver?
JLR needed Toyota or VAG, not a wealthy teabag magnate.

They're certainly running out of time unless 2025 is just the launch year and cars are only available 2 more years later.
They do have an EV hardware deal with BMW, as far as I remember, so I suppose they could do a fair bit of testing using BMW bodied mules and/or Range Rover ones as a RR EV is due in 2024 I think.

Tata group as a whole is probably bigger and a larger cash pile than VAG?
Automobile companies profit levels for a long time have always been pretty dismal for the amount of capital expenditure needed.

How many cars does VAG sell a year? Millions and millions.
Jaguar needs VAG level investment, but for what? 50,000 cars a year?

It's the Consulting Services I think.
When I was consulting we did a few joint bids with them in the energy industry, they can ship, or at least could, staff in from India and get a lot of the coding etc. actually done in India. They could significantly undercut us and still make massive profits as their staff costs were so much lower.
