That is pretty normal with Renault plugs. When I worked in a Renault dealers in the early 80's the mechanics would only fit Champion plugs, they insisted that they ran better on Champion than any other plug. I did think this was a load of bollocks as you do when you are young until I had my 25 turbo. It used to eat plugs, but the Champions which were cheaper than NGK lasted twice as long. I still only fit Champion in Renaults.

To be fair, that set lived through all kinds of carby tinkering.
Wouldn't an R25 turbo have an entirely different generation of engine?

It was the prv v6 so not the same but was an example of renaults being fussy about plugs. They just used to burn out on the turbo rather than the growth that appears on the 4 cylinders. The older fitters who had worked on Renault's all through the 70's would throw anything other than Champion back over the stores counter. They went ballistic when the Renault 21 came out and the genuine plugs were AC Delco. The fitters back then were very loyal to the brand and said it was a sad day when they saw a 14 for the first time as it "wasn't a proper Renault" Renault built some great cars in the 70's / 80's it is such a shame so few are left now and values don't make it worthwhile importing. I was very tempted by this 25 turbo in Le Harve. The seller even speaks good English but is firm on the price.

Did they offer an explanation for what causes the growth four cylinders create on non Champion plugs?

Of course the 14 wasn't a proper Renault what with its Peugeot engine mounted in some funny orientation like that comical English nonsense. That 25 is IMO quite a fair offer if it's as good as he says. Sadly it has all the wrong upholstery material and gearbox.

Some boring and meaningless trivia on the side is that Champion and AC Delco were founded by the same person.

Today I checked whether the brakes are still there. Well, they are, which I expected considering the scraping noise they made lately. As a rule of thumb, what makes noise hasn't fallen off yet. Anyway, the brakes are there and still look like new, which is probably due to the fact that I hardly ever use them. This in turn has the disadvantage that things begin to seize and make scraping noises. The car not being driven for four weeks might have helped a bit, too.
So everything was disassembled, greased and put back together. Consequently we might have brakes for our trip to Mezidon-Canon, a hitherto unknown experience.

In further news, I did some fine adjustment to the eggsorst, followed by turning the clamps in the correct orientation, since I expect to not have to touch them again for the next 52 years.

There has been some slight coolant top uppage into the goldfish tank, too.

However, one vital thing is still missing, but shall arrive during the course of next week. Without it, travelling abroadwards is merely semi appropriate, as I noticed last year, and I do not wish to show up over there without it another time.

You didn't need to order a beret. Squire already has one.

It does not involve a beret.

Some cheese and a high ratio reverse gear?
