Me too! A 1000%!
The other is to a customer’s specification and it seems like his only taste was in his mouth!

Re: WReXless now a chirpy cheap Jeep
Sooooo I’ve finally broken my new year ‘duck’ and got to work on a car.
The Bowden tube needed spacing to stop the clutch bounce. So easy to get to on just a chassis, can be interesting on a bug but with the extra width of a Ghia, wish I’d done it on the ramp. Still…
First time I’ve touched the wheels on this. Odd set up. Rather than have to pull the clutch cable off, you can use washers with slots to reduce the bounce.
Just in case, there is an issue with the tube, I bought one to have at hand. Made opening up a couple of the washers ids a little easier! Slotted Used a couple of zip ties to release the pressure on the clutch cable and with a bit of a struggle, got them in place. Fixed!!!
Then I made a huge mistake and unhooked the gear shifter. There’s no bushing inside and spent a good hour and a half trying to put the botch back until I can get the parts and gain the energy to take the gear shaft out.
To make myself feel a little better, I took the new wheels out and put them next to the car.
Stock steelie smoothies and a vibrant shade of red, made by the great bunch of lads!
Eventually will have white walls and these rings and trims. I would have preferred VW stamped, but they came as part of a bundle deal.
I’m thinking of going after this type of SoCal look.

I've you're going to be messing about with the gearlever you might want to consider getting a Gene Berg one. Not cheap, at least in the UK, but worth every penny in my opinion.

SoCal seems somewhat inappropriate given the weather where you are, or maybe not as you can look at it inside in the warmth and dream. At least you don't have rogue royals and their petulant princesses where you are.

There is something very satisfying about that garage pic.....Ghia looks remarkably unfucked underneath too.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

Re: WReXless now a chirpy cheap Jeep
I have something similar on there now to a gene berg T shifter.
Unfortunately, because there is no bushing, in the shifter support, near the gear stick, it’s not the best. I’ve ordered a bushing, but it’s a pig of a job to fit. There is a guy in Germany selling a great alternative
https://car-layers.com/en/products/vw-k ... ngenbuchse
Just waiting for a reply, in hope he will ship one to the US.
Once I get that, I’m going to weld the bracket back (the bracket on mine has broken off, so just being held in place by the gear stick nuts) and hopefully that will be half the game sorted.
This is what the car looks like on the Empi 5s. Not sure I like them. Perhaps they just need painting…
At the moment, the back end is naturally lowered (sagging) while the front amazingly has 2 inch dropped spindles (I think). Still so high!!!
The Ghia needs lots of small things, but as you say, so far it’s surprised me, just how solid it is!

Re: WReXless now a chirpy cheap Jeep
Still no reply from the guy in Germany, so decided to print my own.
Measured parts up with a guesstimate of the shift rod diameter, from a post on a VW forum…
Will print this on Monday. In the meantime, it will give me a chance to think about how I can improve it or ways in which it might fail… I’m not sure if the clip over bars, will flex enough, if not I’ll have to make them longer and a bit more flexible. Easy enough to do. Just put a slot next to the flexy ears.
