Do it, a TVR is always a good idea.

Would they not struggle to keep cool in the decent Spanish weather?

I don't think it had stop/start but as I never sat in traffic it didn't get an opportunity to make itself known, never volunteered to start with just a dipped clutch when I got in so it was disabled or not present.SiC wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 5:08 pm Not sure why you were pressing the start button to restart it? For the last decade or two on moderns with stop/start engines, you just dip the clutch and keep it dipped for it to auto restart
BHP/NM display makes more sense than revs with electric propulsion. While it doesn't have it, it's probably to get users used to the concept.
On these humdrum modern boxes, you just can't try to be clever with them. Just let them deal with everything. No need to worry about what noise the engine is doing, just that it's making power.
Some may like this car, I felt too detached, apart from the whiny gearstick it was completely uninvolving.
I like to make progress and this car wasnt a slug, happily hitting 100Kmh in second.
When it made a noise like a Dyson hand dryer it was probably time to up shift.
Rear drum brakes only seemed a bit of an 80's throwback.
It has inspired me to revive some of my sleeping chod projects, two new batteries were purchased today.
I prefer to be a ham-fisted idiot in cars that don't have a fit of the flounce at every opportunity.

More likely jealousy.
In some ways they seem more reliable than a lot of modern shit.

Nah, I'd love one. Nearly went that way instead of the XJR but a solid roof for something I virtually only use in winter won me over.

With no ABS or traction control, and a basic (as basic as a V8 can be) motor and a seperate frame and body, what is there to go wrong?LynehamHerc wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 12:46 pmMore likely jealousy.

Will get a copy of Richard Kitchens book on them. His TVR videos on You Tube don't fill me with fear about owning and running one.
It will only be for my driving enjoyment, so nothing more than an old man's toy before I lose my hearing!

Re: The 'modern cars are shit' thread.
TVR's are rubbish in my experience, I certainly wouldn't entertain one. In 2000 I went to Le Mans with a bloke who had just bought a brand spanking speed 6. It blew a gearbox oil seal on the way there and spent just as long at the dealer as it did on the road in the time he owned it. Other examples of TVR "quality" is the ecu mounted on top of the battery held on with cable ties. Just poor quality all round better off with a C4 or C5 Corvette.

If you dropped the serious money asked for them new then you would be a bit disappointed. They have long since dropped into the banger market so expectations are a little more realistic.
Approach them as you might a kit car and you'll be just fine.
