No wonder otherwise usable cars get scrapped.
700 quid for a water pump, over 700 quid for 6 hours labour at a VAG garage (our local one is £120 an hour) plus all sundries etc.etc..

Designed to fail and be beyond economical repair.
Audi only for the time being, but there will be aftermarket ones at some stage.
Still a pile of plastic crap though.

Looking at the end of it, it looks to be an electronically controlled unit?

How has it failed though ?
Has some part of the plastic pump structure degraded or is it a bearing unit which could be refurbished ?
I think there may have been a 100% Stiffage surcharge on the unit price for 061 121 111 h
£355 here for a Type-R pump

I could be wrong about it being the correct part, I am not versed in the way of VAG part numbers.
Once I tried to order an VAG Alternator by part number, the number was next to the four rings to bind them all, under the bonnet of a Ford Galaxy.
The parts man laughed and denied the very existence of the part despite the branding.

Pump bearings shagged and dripping coolant. You can't buy the alloy pump bit alone, of course.FatherJack wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 3:27 pm How has it failed though ?

They are buried under the inlet manifold that has to come off first. They have the electronic thermostat on the end and the pump is belt driven. That belt is a complete bastard as well.
It's just shit.
You really want to spend the extra for a genuine pump and not have some aftermarket one fail in 18 months.

The one point in that film when McGann's character (Marwood) could of given his name away, is when some old biddy asks "Who is it?" (when he knocks on her door), he replies "I".Drum wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:22 pm"You've got Drum and me thinking"Eddie Honda wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 2:10 pm

Volkswagen has never understood water, they should have stuck to what they knew.
