Re: Shiting with the foreigners
There are a few car meets near to me, but 99% of the cars are restored. I'd much rather see a tatty but daily driven shitebox.
Seems that the scrappage schemes they had here were successful, as I don't see many pre 2000 cars, which is rather sad, seeing as the climate keeps most rust free

You only need to pop over the border to Portugal, there are plenty of old knackers still happily running about there.Jerzy Woking wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 8:31 pm There are a few car meets near to me, but 99% of the cars are restored. I'd much rather see a tatty but daily driven shitebox.

Re: Shiting with the foreigners
It could be an inability to repair older cars, panels may be available but components like LHD Maestro headlights are probably NLA.
This would jack up premiums on older cars and see them getting cubed or shipped to Africa to die through neglect and overloading.
I will be traveling shortly and will endeavour to get a few pictures.

Re: Shiting with the foreigners
1000's of older cars in the scrapyard within a 50 km radius of me. One is about 10 acres in size, purely stocking doors, bonnets and body panels by the thousand.
Complete scrapped cars in most yards are still decent body wise (ie not rusted out), but have wrecked engines and gearboxes, or buggered electrics
Portugal does look good for older cars, which are easy enough to register here, but it's a 1000 mile round trip to the nearest Potuguese city. No harm in me looking though...

Re: Shiting with the foreigners
Spent a week tootling about Lanzarote and found almost nothing old at all apart from this tall stack of brown
I did see a tidy Rover 75 with the beginnings of laquer peel on the boot but my phone was in the car....
How about a Rally prepped Renault Kangubaru WRX ?
Also found an end of life Alfa that even Gaffer tape could not save
