Electric vehicles, pros and cons. Have your say.

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Interesting article about EV's here in Spain. Seemingly written by someone that did some research!

They had nothing to bet. Jaguar was effectively dead 30 years ago and the S Tripe and X Pat nonsense only shovelled earth over the grave. The name means nothing now. BMW found out the hard way about trying to resurrect dead British marques but at least there was something to sell to recoup the wasted money. Jaguar has fuck all and no cards left to play.

When the 2030 ban was first introduced the actual wording was ‘the sale of vehicles solely powered by petrol or diesel will be banned’ but the media chose to disregard the word solely.
As I understand it the move to 2035 also took out the word solely……

Anyone know if this is true as I can’t find a reliable source

"Electric cars risk becoming uninsurable.
Difficulty pricing battery repairs forcing insurers to refuse cover.

Electric cars risk becoming effectively uninsurable as analysts struggle to put a price on battery repairs, the researcher for the car insurance industry has said.

Jonathan Hewett, chief executive of Thatcham Research, the motor insurers’ automotive research centre, said a lack of “insight and understanding” about the cost of repairing damaged electric car batteries was pushing up premiums and resulting in some providers declining to provide cover altogether.

Electric cars can be particularly expensive to repair, costing around a quarter more to fix on average than a petrol or diesel vehicle. Experts have previously warned electric vehicles are being written off after minor bumps because of the cost and complexity of fixing their batteries."

To date, they've had no problem picking numbers out of said arses for everything else. So I don't see why their already huge arseholes haven't expanded to accommodate.

That's very true.

It's like the old saying about asking 2 economists for an answer to a question and getting 3 answers (or something like that).

I have driven an EV, a Vauxhall Mokka.
This was for a couple of miles so not really a proper test drive but the taster I had leaves me entirely cold.

Phoning we buy any car to cube my least likely to work ever again projects is now lower down my to-do list.
A ratty old Rover Streetwise looks a whole lot more inviting to drive than a Mokka.

I would much rather blezz about in an end of life ICE car than consider becoming dependant on an EV.
My children can make their own choices as I can make my own.

Interesting stats from the fire brigade, number of EV fires as a percentage of cars on road in London is very small.
Percentage of EVs involved in a fire compared to number of EVs on road in London is very high.

Not encouraging
