Re: Scruffy's Scrappers
As you can see it's buggered. Someone has been using it without the bolt in for a period of time by the looks of it.

Re: Scruffy's Scrappers
That does look well shot. If not a cotterpin then a woodruff key? depends which is easier to do.

Re: Scruffy's Scrappers
I've just tried a file on the shaft coming out the gearbox and it is actually quite soft so drilling thru it may well be the best bet. The owner of the bike has been round this morning and has gone shopping in Stourport for a plug cap and to see if he can get some of that stuff to line the inside of the tank. My drill and a lot of my tools are at CLINT's at the mo so fixing the kickstart will have to wait a bit longer.

Re: Scruffy's Scrappers
Nooo, don't drill through the shaft it will snap, put the kick start on tight then drill into the shaft end on so the drill is half on the shaft and half in the kick start. Then you can tap a pin in to stop it spinning.

Roughly my thinking for a woodruff key, it removes less strength from the shaft. Your way is easier to do though.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 9:13 pm Nooo, don't drill through the shaft it will snap, put the kick start on tight then drill into the shaft end on so the drill is half on the shaft and half in the kick start. Re: Scruffy's Scrappers
Now drilled and tapped with a 6mm 8.8 bolt I found in an old tool box, hopefully that'll sort it indefinitely.

Re: Scruffy's Scrappers
Finally managed to get hold of a petrol can and bought a cheap inline filter. A few drops of fuel down the spark plug hole and the orange one is now a runner. One small problem, the seal in the petcock as it appears to be called is fucked, it's perished, split and leaking. It appears to measure 16x2mm. Similar ones for Vespas seem to be pence but the cheapest one for this I have found so far is a frankly ridiculous 9 quid ffs.
CLINT. it looks like the G wagon may well be up for sale soon!
Justin also dropped off a NOS front mudguard and I've given it a quick rinse so that will tidy it up a bit. CLINT. it looks like the G wagon may well be up for sale soon!

Re: Scruffy's Scrappers
Yeah right, he offered me his Merc SL500 for a bargain price but then changed his mind when I said yes. Must have found some change down the back of the sofa.
That G Wagen is a nice old thing though
