What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

That pretty much represents my life savings. There is no way on this earth I shall be looking at buying anything tasty in the future, another reason that I suppose justifies keeping the junk that I already have.

The van and the Minor have been with me for the best part of two decades now so I shan't be cashing either of those lightly. I think I paid £3000 for the camper and it remains the most expensive vehicle I've ever bought. Spent a shit-load on them since purchase, of course so I see where SiC is coming from but as I said before - I still wouldn't have that money now, just done a few more weekenders, bought some more records and probably moved house or something.

I swapped a nearly concours metro advantage for a mk2 mx5 because I couldn't improve it anymore. The mx5 was mint too but at least it was a change and I could drive the arse off it.

Make it too nice and you'll never drive it. Slightly ratty and it's ok to go to the shops, to the town. It'll still make you smile, it'll still attract "my father/brother/uncle/grandfather had one" comments.

Imperfectly perfect.

Parts, servicing, road tax, insurance, storage and transportation comes to just over 12 grand. That's not including purchase cost of cars which is a tad more complicated to work out. Nor does it include fuel.

Well that is (probably) a decent amount of coke and hookers... Image

Something is going to have to change. That's quite a lot of money to anyone. Doesn't help them being a time thief and I end up being a slave to them.
Fuck me, why did I read this!
Last 12 months has been £20k on a truck and caravan, that I have not used yet. £7k on renting the workshop. £2.5k on a Bedford motor home that doesn't work. Then about another £3k on shit that actually works.
I think I'll offload the caravan and truck, once I've fixed the caravan's fucked suspension, and the trucks 4wd.

I've no idea what I've spent in the last 12 months on my quality used spares BECAUSE I DON'T ADD IT UP!

I know I'm not flat broke as I pour out my Coco Pops liberally from the box!

I don't add it up too much.

Other than when I've done some work myself and then I add up what it would have cost me to have someone else do it and content myself that it enriched my knowledge and allowed me to buy other things instead.

Or if I can ignore the problem it becomes less.

Most times, I look at the rusty hole in the bottom of the A pillar of the Chieftain as I'm getting in. The door still opens and closes just fine with one fingertip, but nevertheless, it's there. I know the floor pans need ... TLC. As does the rear valance.

But, I get in, close the door, ignore how the bottom of it wobbles where it's supported by the good grace of thin air and just enjoy the thing for what it is.

Life is too short. I'm only thinking about the car because I haven't added up the cost of repairs to the house- that exceeds the current value of the house. I haven't even started on the garage yet.

Money likes to move around. It likes to make new friends, get out and see the world. I haven't spent it; I've merely exchanged it for some bricks, some paint, some steel.

And that makes me happier.

Every year I have to submit agreed valuation forms for the camper and every year I see how much the restoration cost and weep inside at the total. And before some smart arse comments that it must be more than 50p then it was, considerably so.

You work. You earn. You die. The only variables to fit into that equation are maximising the ones that give you pleasure. Why count coins or the amount of breaths you take?

I spent a fucking fortune on vehicles last year. The transhit had about £8k spent on it not including the £280 a month, fuel or insurance etc. The white one is standing me £7k. That doesn't even include the cars. Although the little red one costs nexr to fuck all.
