Not quite ready for the road yet. That was a little bit naughty driving it up and down the road. Sshhh.

Yes, we have an annual inspection. The car will be tested then be recipient of a sticker in the windshield.
Here, the process here goes thus:

1) Purchase vehicle from current owner.
2) Owner signs title of ownership to you, which must be stamped by a notary and recorded in the state records.
3) Vehicle must be insured with at least state minimum (equivalent to third party only)
4) Vehicle must be registered for use on the roads in the state with the DMV. A fee is paid and a plate is issued with the registration mark. Driver's license, title of ownership and proof of insurance must be provided at this time. If purchased out of state then stamped title is changed to the state it's being registered in.
5) Vehicle must have safety inspection, once it passes it gets a sticker in the window.

(If you cancel the use of the vehicle on the road, cancel the insurance you must turn the plate in.)

Figured I'd explain because it's a bit different to there. A house and a vehicle are two of the things that have to go through state authority to purchase.

Rinsed the car down, topped up the gearbox oil as per the manual (warm, in Dr at idle) and took it down the street again- it's behaving a little better now (funny, that).

While the car was out, cleaned up the garage. It's a lot nicer in there now, all the dust and crap and loose washers (of which there were many) removed from the floor.

At least they were only washers.

I've just done this with my car port, where the MGB is stored when its here, and found a few bits that I should have given the garage. About the only positive side of the garage taking so long is that they won't have bought new ones yet so I've saved myself a few bob.

Lumpy running hopefully isolated to the distributor.

Waiting for it to cool a bit then I'll pull the dizzy and overhaul it.

Ugh. That's meant to be flat. I straightened it out as best as I could.

Changes gear nicely. Misfire is bizarre, particularly as it clears itself. Haven't really touched the carb yet, that is next.

Firing on 7 is going to be an ignition thing, I think just new leads, cap, rotor arm should resolve that

The lumpy was indeed gearbox. I think it just needs a bit more adjustment because I've managed to get it to shift fairly smoothly now but the linkage is worn, sloppy and badly adjusted.

Work to come on it but I think I can sort this out.

The linkages were all sloppy because they could flop sideways in their holes.

Fitted the spring in place, this pulls the mechanism so it sits in line but can still pull sideways if the mechanism is overloaded.

Got it all adjusted up so it pushes the throttle all the way home and also pushes the gearbox modulator lever all the way back.

Road test tomorrow hopefully.

Improved idle by seating all the leads correctly in the cap. Some had come loose with pulling the cap off and on so many times adjusting things.
