Re: Building the Leg End. The Old Jag thread.

Has Porsche got away with it with the Cayenne etc. and EVs like the Panamera do you think? No. Yes they sell more cars but Rolex would sell more watches if they made something battery powered and cheap. The mystique of Porsche has gone. The only one worth buying is the cheapest Cayman because it is...

What you could do is remove the alternator and oil filter housing because trust me, it will be seeping oil. That gives you tons of room to do the CCV.

Fucking BMW’s - an incorrect PDC module was causing the instrument cluster to go mental twice a day.😂

Re: Sics Consolidated Faded Moderns Thread - 2004 BMW Z4 2.2 & 2005 BMW 330i

Sounds like a DSC fault somewhere. The joys of old modern cars. I’d thought the days of worthless BMW’s was over but Facebook marketplace is awash with not very old 1 Series and E90’s for £300, Minis as well. The inlet manifold off job isn’t bad on the Z4 as unlike the rest of them, there is a decen...

Re: Sics Consolidated Faded Moderns Thread - 2004 BMW Z4 2.2 & 2005 BMW 330i

The E46 is nowhere near as tough or fixable as the E36 before, but they look and drive like a BMW should.
I saw a super clean 52 plate 320i touring yesterday in a light metallic green - that’s the sort of thing I want.

Re: Sics Consolidated Faded Moderns Thread - 2004 BMW Z4 2.2 & 2005 BMW 330i

This week’s drama has been a buggered centre prop bearing. Replaced in an hour with a genuine part, it now has a driveline vibration despite doing everything right. Both halves marked for reassembly, centre bearing slightly preloaded. I hate this generation of BMW. They’re just needy old shit with n...

Re: Old British cars were shit. Discuss.

i recalling it & thinking it was a good simple car. They were. We did some tuning work for a Skoda main dealer in Brackley in the 80's - gasflowed and skimmed head, twin choke Weber and rolling road setting up to bump power up to 80 bhp or so. The Rapid had a much better IRS than the saloons wh...

Re: Sics Consolidated Faded Moderns Thread - 2004 BMW Z4 2.2 & 2005 BMW 330i

My shitbox decided today to ping on the airbag and seat belt lights, because old BMW.

I still think 88-96 was the peak BMW era when they were good cars with useful tech that was reliable and easy to fix. Anything older or newer is too needy.

Re: Sics Consolidated Faded Moderns Thread - 2004 BMW Z4 2.2 & 2005 BMW 330i

Big trolley jack = doable. A day of swearing but much easier than FWD shit. I always screw a couple of long studs into the back of the engine and slide the 'box on. These cars aren't special or valuable enough to warrant pissing around replacing bits like solenoids. Drive it until it breaks, then ta...

Re: Sics Consolidated Faded Moderns Thread - 2004 BMW Z4 2.2 & 2005 BMW 330i

The old 5HP's were good, well, until they were improved in 1998. I have a 2006 120d as a daily turd. They're horrid things, I mean really unpleasant. What baffles me is that BMW went from the E36 Compact which is light, quite agile with light controls, decent seats and good all round vision to somet...

Re: Old British cars were shit. Discuss.

That's when British cars were still quite good.

It didn't last.
