A similar story in somewhat different circumstances to the TVR/Trident is the Austin FX4 which ended its days as a completely independent vehicle and long out-lived the parent makers.

An obvious one, perhaps, but Shelby developed the Cobra way beyond it's AC Ace origins. Likewise Caterham with the Lotus Seven.

No, that does not mean that shagged ones drove mint, either......

Mk4s were better but so was a Cavalier, Fiat 131, Peugeot 504, Morris Ital...OK Maybe not the Ital but you get the idea.
